Criminal Background Check

All incoming students are required to submit (directly to PreCheck) an application for a criminal background check. No other service will be accepted. A monetary fee (payable to PreCheck) must accompany the PreCheck application which is to be submitted by the tuition deposit date. Your offer of admission and continued enrollment is contingent upon acceptable results from your Pre-Check report. Â鶹´«Ã½ reserves the right to put restrictions on or rescind an offer of admission based on information received on your background check. Also note that should any charge or arrest occur after acceptance, whether or not you were convicted, you are required to inform Â鶹´«Ã½ immediately when it occurs. Failure to report such charges or arrests, whether guilty or not, and/or failure to report immediately, within 72 hours, can result in your offer of admission being rescinded. Upon review of the charge, Â鶹´«Ã½ reserves the right to rescind the offer of admission prior to matriculation.

  • Â鶹´«Ã½ is listed as the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine on the PreCheck website, so please make sure to check that school name when filling out the application. There are four different Â鶹´«Ã½ designations on the background check. To complete your background check for admissions, SPECIFICALLY CHOOSE the option that only reads, “Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Official Transcripts

Official transcripts sent to AACOMAS are provided to Â鶹´«Ã½ when an applicant applies. These transcripts may be accepted by Â鶹´«Ã½ if all coursework the student has taken at that institution is completed as of June 1 of the application year and confirmed on the transcript. Â鶹´«Ã½ will verify that a transcript has been received for every institution listed on the AACOMAS application, that at least one baccalaureate degree has been awarded, and that all other degrees reported on the AACOMAS application are documented. If there is a question as to the authenticity of a transcript, an official transcript from the institution in question will be required to be sent directly to Â鶹´«Ã½.

Any school the applicant is attending or will attend after June of the application year will require an official transcript be sent directly from that institution to the appropriate Â鶹´«Ã½ campus. In this case, the transcript sent to AACOMAS will not be accepted.

In the event that Â鶹´«Ã½ does require a transcript directly from an institution, transcripts must be sent directly from the Registrar’s Office of the school(s) attended directly to the Â鶹´«Ã½ Registrar’s Office. Be sure to have the transcript addressed to the appropriate campus. Unofficial transcripts or transcripts hand-carried by the student (even if in a sealed envelope) are not acceptable. Failure to submit official transcripts by the due date (or to obtain authorized approval of an extension) may result in the offer of admission to Â鶹´«Ã½ being rescinded and forfeiture of your tuition deposit.

If required, transcripts should be sent to and questions addressed to the appropriate campus.

Student Health Requirements

Applicants accepted for admission are required to obtain and to provide the required documentation indicating that they do not have conditions that would endanger the health and well-being of patients.  In order to protect the health and well-being of our students and patients, Â鶹´«Ã½ requires that all students meet the College’s basic student health requirements on acceptance prior to matriculation and annually while a Â鶹´«Ã½ student.
 
Students must be able to demonstrate that their health and abilities will enable them to meet the Technical Standards for Admission to Â鶹´«Ã½ and Continued Enrollment and Health Requirements.  Students must view the Technical Standards at the time of application for admission, and assure they meet those standards.  Students are required to present both proof of a recent physical exam and proof of current immunization status signed by a physician prior to matriculation.  Students must maintain the ability to meet the health requirements and Technical Standards throughout their four years of enrollment.

Health and immunization forms are due to the Clinical Assessment Coordinator in the Department of Clinical Affairs on the following dates, based on the date of your acceptance letter.

Health Insurance

All students at Â鶹´«Ã½ are required to obtain and maintain health insurance. Â鶹´«Ã½ offers health insurance at no additional cost to students.

Proof of Legal Status

Students attending the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (Â鶹´«Ã½) must show proof of US Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or other lawful status to study in the United States (i.e. an F-1 Visa). If students obtain financial aid they have proven their citizenship or residency status and do not need to show further proof. All others must provide a valid Social Security Card, US Passport or F-1 Visa as proof of legal status to study in the United States. This information must be provided in person to the Director of Admissions no later than orientation.

Basic Life Support

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association is required before you begin classes at Â鶹´«Ã½. It is highly recommended that you take a course near you well in advance of June 1 so that you will have your certification card in hand when classes start. Â鶹´«Ã½ students need to do both the knowledge component and the skills check. The AHA offers these as a classroom training *or* as an online class and then a separate in-person skills check.

  • The BLS certification course must be through the AHA as some clinical sites (including sites you may go to in year 2) will have this specific requirement. Certifications from the Red Cross, EMS training, nursing licensure or other sources will not substitute. Please complete the training at a site convenient to you before classes begin to assure you meet the requirement.

Please provide a copy of your certification card to the Student Health Coordinator on your campus or bring a copy of the certification card with you to Accepted Students Day or Orientation.
